As a singer with Iranian classical music background his compositions are often influenced by the rhythmic freedom of Iranian music and sometimes by philosophy and poetry. On other hand the same approach is what often shapes the musical ideas, the concept of form and even harmony function in his music, rather than existing simply as a mixture of tonality, modality, and atonality.
Farshad has composed orchestral works, chamber music, songs and pieces for vocal ensemble, including an opera. He has also a diverse approach towards music styles.
